ABSTRACT

In an institution as varied as the community college, there’s bound to be a great deal of innovation. The college’s image as a teaching institution suggests that, freed from the constraints of research and academic tradition, it can more readily experiment with different approaches. And virtually every college-certainly every college we visited-has some experimentation, from individual instructors moving toward more student-centered methods, to efforts to incorporate computers, to one or two learning communities.
