ABSTRACT
This chapter traces the evolution of education policy in South Africa from the early colonial period to the mid-1990s. I present this historical analysis in six periods, from the early colonial invasion to the modernday era. In my discussion, each period represents a major shift in legislation and policy as influenced by colonialists, the former Nationalist government, and other key stakeholders, including students, teachers, political activists, and union leaders.
