ABSTRACT

Tanzania is one of the very few countries in Africa that is using an African language, Kiswahili, as the language of instruction throughout primary school and, at one point also had plans for using that language in secondary schools and even at the universities. Namibia is also of interest as a country that has recently become independent, and at that time especially, was confronted with the question of what language policy to follow in post independence and post-apartheid Namibia.148
