ABSTRACT

In the fascinating book Mokoko-The Makgoba Affair Professor William Makgoba (1997) describes his background and upbringing as well as the chain of events that forced him to resign as deputy vice chancellor of the University of Witwatersrand (in daily communication called Wits) in Pretoria. Makgoba also expresses his views on the universities in Africa in general and the universities in South Africa in particular. How much are these universities going to be copies of European universities and how much will they realize that they are situated in Africa on African soil? What does educational transformation mean in relation to the universities of South Africa?
