ABSTRACT

Collaboration between national authorities, producers, and the food industry in sharing the responsibility and burden of assuring consumers that their food is safe and wholesome appears most promising to meeting the challenge of residue avoidance. Residue avoidance is based on the notion that enforcement of legislation may be more effective when combined with cooperative educational programs and communication with all involved groups. Within this framework, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set up an educational and cooperative residue prevention plan called the Residue Avoidance Program.
