ABSTRACT
A candidate for president of the United States was recently asked whether, if elected, he would place in the Oval Office the fundamentalist motto “What would Jesus do?” Jesus would, of course, never run for president (and never get elected if he did run), and such questions disturb Americans who think religion should be kept out of politics. But men have been urged, for two thousand years, to model themselves on Jesus.
