ABSTRACT
For those works that may be performed either alone or as part of a larger cycle (Symphonia, Trilogy, Three Occasions for Orchestra, and Three Recollections) the principal citation is of the complete cycle (Partita, for example, is listed under Symphonia-Sum Fluxae Pretiam Spei). Cross-references from the individual parts of each cycle are also provided. The recordings of each composition are listed in the order in which they were released, except for reissues, which are listed in chronological order immediately following the original release. When releases differ only in format or catalog number, these are listed on separate lines at the beginning of the entry. Titles of recordings are provided only if they are distinct from the names of the included compositions. The names of performers, the dates and locations of recording, timings, and credits for production, engineering, and program notes have been provided whenever possible. On recordings that include compositions by other composers, the “notes by” reference is only to those notes that specifically refer to works by Carter.
