ABSTRACT

Given the correspondences in the corporeal articulation of whiteness across different public spaces, my research points to the interconnections, the apparent synchronization, between different political spheres. In contemporary Germany, a plurality of organizational forms, including Green/environmental activists, promote whiteness as a common arena for the formation and enactment of contradictory social identities. But linked to a terrain of politics that is dedicated to countercultural and antiracist positions, the phenomenon of “naturalizing” white skin among antiestablishment activists requires explanation.
