ABSTRACT
The safety of blood transfusion has long been an area of concern and study (1). However, with the intense public and legislative scrutiny following the discovery of the potential for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission by blood transfusion, there has been an exceptional increase in the investigative and regulatory interest directed at a broad range of blood safety issues.
