I. Introduction
Medical imaging techniques play an important role in the diagnosis and management of severe asthma. Properly applied, medical imaging may enhance the clinician's understanding of the anatomic and physiologic perturbations that are at the root of the patient's disease. Medical imaging may also allow for timely detection of complications or important superimposed conditions that may affect the clinical course of the severe asthmatic. Furthermore, medical imaging may assist in the differentiation of severe asthma from other disease processes with which it may be confused. This is vitally important, as the therapies for these various conditions may differ significantly (1,2).
