ABSTRACT
Birds are one of the few universally recognized components of our natural environment. Birds serve alternately as predators, prey, food, and entertainment for hundreds of millions of people on a global basis. For this reason, they are perhaps the most anthropomorphized and widely appreciated group of animals other than domestic pets. Consequently, the subject of birds as pests can be controversial, and the subject of bird management can easily draw as much fire as politics or religion.
