ABSTRACT

Proteins are complex biomolecules and by nature unstable. During the isolation step they are exposed to changes in environment, enzymatic degradation by proteases, or even time itself, leading to protein losses and loss of biological activity. Purification of proteins is always a race against time and there is a need to accelerate the isolation procedure. In addition to saving the yield of the target protein, fast separations also help to improve the cost-effectiveness of the production process. Clearly, analytical protein separations also benefit from rapid techniques.
