ABSTRACT
Although it is a uniquely functional mineral, wollastonite has a relatively short history of industrial use. Deposits of sufficient size and purity to be of commercial interest are unusual, even though it is also a relatively common mineral in a geological sense. Wollastonite was probably first mined for industrial purposes in California in 1933, when it was used in production trials in the manufacture of mineral wool.
