ABSTRACT

The mechanical items used by the grouter to place chemicals into a formation are many and varied. They include (in order of decreasing size) drilling rigs, casing, drill rod and pipe, pumping systems, jackhammers, tank agitators, pressure hoses, valves and fittings, and measuring devices for pressure, volume, weight, etc. Much of the total equipment needed can be obtained readily on the open market and used with little or no modifications. In a similar fashion, much of the technology related to the use of that equipment is also totally or mainly relevant to chemical grouting. Drilling rigs and drilling methods are excellent examples of tools and technology developed for other purposes but filling neatly the grouter's needs as well. Equipment, tools, and methodologies such as drilling, used by the grouter without significant modification, are not discussed here since details are readily available from other sources.
