ABSTRACT
The Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction” during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show (Figure 1.1) sparked numerous calls for media decency in the United States. Jackson appeared to be wearing a “Nipple Shield” – a metal jewelry accessory that made her nipple appear like a sun. The scene lasted only a few frames before she covered herself, and CBS went to a break. A modern regulatory firestorm followed.
