ABSTRACT

The primary purpose of integral assessment is to inquire into those dimensions of clients and their circumstances that play influential roles in their suffering, struggles, and pathologies as well as their strengths, resources, and well-being. At a minimum, integral assessment must address quadrants and developmental levels; ideally, it also attends to lines, states, types, and the self-system. Most problems or pathologies are influenced by aspects of all four quadrants. If developmental levels are implicated and there are significant repressions or dissociated aspects of self, uncovering work is indicated. If the pathologies involve previous stages of development, 3-2-1 work is indicated. The Integral Intake is primarily an idiographic assessment instrument. A genuine integral approach will always take into account both inside and outside views of both individuals and the collective systems in which they live.
