ABSTRACT

When some bystanders attempted to grab the scoundrel, he had a ready response: “You can let go of me. It’s all right! The two of us have made a bet.”

When they heard this, the people let him go, thinking that the two men had made a bet as to which one could run faster. And so the poor shoemaker was tricked and ended up losing a pair of shoes. Told by Francesca Amato in Palermo.
