ABSTRACT
Within the general construction sector, renovation and refurbishment of commercial buildings is a high-volume generator of waste material destined for landfill. With major refurbishments carried out at an average of 20-year intervals, there is considerable potential for reuse and recycling strategies to help minimize waste generation in this sector. Retail refurbishments occur at much more regular intervals.
