ABSTRACT

Given the development of this book, ten years have elapsed since my interview partner commented on how long twenty years can seem when one looks at the changes in images of lesbian community. The fi rst text analyzed, Example A, dates back to 1970, and in the nearly 40 years since, lesbian communities, discourses and texts in the UK and the US have changed almost beyond recognition. In the last pages of this book, I will provide a summary of the overall fi ndings, comment on how a critical discourse analysis helps trace historical changes and fl ag up some possible future research in the area of language and sexual identity.
