ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will summarize and highlight our work with the Reading Classroom Explorer (RCE). RCE is a video- and database-driven Web environment used to help preservice teachers explore exemplary literacy instruction. Over the course of the past five years, we have developed and implemented RCE in multiple states with literally hundreds of teacher candidates. We will highlight five years of research, with the hope of providing readers critical insight into the development, implementation, and research of an electronic learning environment for literacy teacher education. We hope readers will gain a complete understanding of Reading Classroom Explorer’s theoretical rationale, operational principles, and empirical effectiveness from this chapter.
