ABSTRACT
Most of the discipline-based content taught in the early grades is drawn from history and geography. However, social studies also includes content drawn from the social science disciplines of anthropology, economics, political science, psychology, and sociology. Secondary social studies features discipline-based courses in these subjects. In the elementary grades, content from these subjects is included in the history and geography strands and in lessons on cultural universals, communities, and nations.
