ABSTRACT
A few years ago I wrote an article for the medical journal the Lancet that I entitled `From Charles Atlas to the Adonis Complex ± Fat Is More Than A Feminist Issue'. This was an attempt to make sense of the growing literature concerning a condition that had been named muscle dysmorphia. I strongly argued that the condition had many similarities to anorexia nervosa `in reverse', and that treatments were needed which resembled those of eating disorders.
