ABSTRACT

The core to the successful treatments of muscle dysmorphia, eating disorders and compulsive over-exercise is as simple as ABC. In Stages 3 and 4, you explored the behaviours and the cognitions. In this stage you examine your `affect'. Affect is the word psychiatrists and psychologists use to describe someone's emotions. Tackling emotions, thoughts and behaviours is known to be the best way to overcome your problems. In this chapter, we look at how past traumas may have caused current feelings. We explore the process of anger management and dealing with con¯ict. Finally, we look at the issue of low self-esteem.
