ABSTRACT

How did the client sitting before you get to where they are today? This is the question a case conceptualisation attempts to answer. In the form of a structured explanation, it provides the bridge between assessment and treatment, forms the basis of a good rationale and provides the fundamental ingredient of engagement – a demonstrated and shared understanding of the client’s predicament. This chapter will provide the reader with a structure on which to build case conceptualisations in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and then flesh this structure out with research and case examples.
