ABSTRACT

Buildings can be regarded as living beings. This is clearly exemplified in the natural forms of Art Nouveau, which curl and unfurl in organic movement, and in the buildings of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright with their interplay of concrete and nature. In this essay, however, I want to bring the building to life in a more fundamental way, beyond its visual attributes. Far from being a mere created end product, I regard the building as active participant in the creative process of human beings.
