ABSTRACT

Jay Haley (1973, 1976, 1980, 1981) was the founder of the strategic school of family therapy (Madanes 1981). His biography encompasses almost the full history of the ®eld, from the pioneering days of Bateson at the Mental Research Institute (Fisch et al. 1982) to the `established' days of the 2000s (Zeig 2001). His ideas, however, have a lot in common with the work of the MRI and so in this point we will `con¯ate' both approaches.
