ABSTRACT

This chapter examines communication between different cultures – intercultural communication, also known as cross-cultural communication. This is complex for a number of reasons. First, we know how difficult it is to communicate across social boundaries because of factors which we discuss in this chapter, such as social stereotypes. Second, the concept of culture is itself complex. It is a socially sensitive subject as people, usually subconsciously, tend to approach it from the viewpoint of their own culture.
