ABSTRACT

Contemporary debates have also paid increasing attention to those forms of work that stand outside the employment relationship, and in particular to unpaid labour carried out within the home. Questions of change characterise these debates too but commentators have identified more continuity than transformation in who performs unpaid domestic work and for whom. What marks these discussions is the recognition of the necessary interlinkages between unpaid

and paid forms of work, inside and outside the home, and the need to see a more holistic picture of the division of all forms of labour.
