ABSTRACT

The uneven nature of globalization1 and its unequal impact on developing countries have been extensively analyzed by scholars, but relatively little work has been done on the impact of globalization on marginalized groups in society, and this is especially true of women. This gap in the literature will be addressed in this chapter by exploring the ways in which recent trends in the Korean economy have affected the identity construction process of Korean women. In particular, it underlines how women in Korea have had to negotiate increasingly complex socio-economic problems rising from the country’s rapidly changing economic conditions.
