ABSTRACT

BEYOND CORE ASSUMPTIONS E. D. Hirsch has clearly articulated the assumptions made by neoconservatives in relation to education (Buras, 1999b, 2006). Th ese assumptions have shaped a national movement focused on reforming preschools as well as elementary and middle schools through the adoption of Core Knowledge. In short, Hirsch’s vision has moved far beyond guiding assumptions to become a Core curriculum and an educational crusade.
