Some schools have already made significant progress in identifying and providing for the gifted science student. Other schools are still in the first stages of tackling the challenge. The most essential element is ensuring that all staff agree that this is a high-priority issue. Achievement at the higher levels at the end of each key stage indicates that many pupils do not fulfil their early promise and there is under-achievement, particularly among pupils from vulnerable and lower socio-economic groups.
