ABSTRACT

Although an organization may appear a single entity, it is actually composed of many diverse individuals, all more or less autonomous, who communicate with each other, and the world, from their own viewpoints and experiences. In fact, when they use ICTs, their diversity is only amplified by the speed and ease with which they can communicate, since they can now “talk” through a broader range of media with a more diverse set of people than ever before. Clearly, then, a typical modern organization would seem to qualify, at least in normal parlance, as a complex system.2
