ABSTRACT

The Primary National Strategy learning objectives are best viewed as end of year outcomes. So, for example, by the end of Year 4 the aim is for children to be able to ‘use knowledge of different organisational features of texts to find information effectively’. Planned units will therefore revisit objectives throughout the year, approaching them in different ways, rather than a teacher ticking them off at the end of a unit as having been ‘taught’. The ‘Group discussion and interaction’ objective focuses the children explicitly on developing their ability to take on different roles within groups.
