ABSTRACT

There are many different ways to make assessments of children, including the decisions made using daily observations about a child’s development and/or learning and their interests or abilities, which are often referred to as ‘assessment for learning’ or ‘formative assessment’. Another form of assessment gives a summary of a child’s achievements and progress and is known as a ‘summative assessment’, such as the EYFS Profile documenting each child’s achievement at the end of the EYFS.
