ABSTRACT

Are systemically signifi cant national currencies being threatened with extinction by the forces of “globalization?” The short answer to this question, based on the four case studies presented here, is a decisive no. That said, two of the currencies in our case studies have been threatened, and could be again, by a contingent neoliberalism. Of the interpretations of globalization identifi ed in Chapter 3, it is globalism, or more accurately neoliberal globalism, that has posed the greatest threat.
