ABSTRACT
To some degree, different ways of defining sustainability are useful for different situations and different purposes and, for this reason, various groups
have created definitions. The definition most frequently referred to is the one established by the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development report, ‘Our Common Future’, in 1987. This definition states that:
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
