ABSTRACT

Provision for creative play is one of the most important ingredients in the early years since creativity is so fundamental to our lives, both as children and later as adults. Being able to think creatively – analysing a situation and coming up with new ideas or actions – supports the dispositions needed for learning and life: resourcefulness, positive thinking, having a go,experimentation, persistence, innovation, thinking outside the box and the ability to express thoughts and ideas. Children need to grow up believing that they are creative, being comfortable with uncertainty and happy to work at finding solutions. These are the life skills needed for the twenty-first century, in which change is certain.
