Introduction

The primary focus of this book is to improve the learning and teaching environment in higher education (HE) by encouraging staff to consider the role of formative assessment and formative feedback and the effect that these have on the student learning experience. The aim is to encourage teaching and support staff to focus on the promotion of student learning through formative assessment activities and the provision of formative feedback (on both formative and summative assessment activities).
