ABSTRACT

This edited volume sheds much needed light on the different ways in which class works. In this chapter I argue that class works at two levels-the levels of public discourse and at the level of individual subjectivities; and in two directions-from the outside in and the inside out. I refer to this process as the two-in-oneness of class. This process has implications for the way we conceptualize the formation of subjectivity, which I refer to in the concluding section of the chapter.
