Teaching poetry creatively in the Early Years

Poetry explores a fascination with words and sounds, rhythms and imagery. It is a creative and vibrant genre where children and adults are encouraged to innovate with language. For the young child, poetry should allow silliness, exploration and enjoyment. Poetry in the Early Years revolves predominantly around rhymes, rhythms and songs where music and text unite to create imaginative worlds and where, importantly, everything need not make sense.
