ABSTRACT
Identification of disorders of motor development requires moving away from an over-reliance on the milestones of development, which have a wide range of variability, to a framework that includes:
1. qualitative observations of:
(a) static (at rest) and dynamic (on movement) posture and balance;
(b) associated movements;
2. common variations in achieving locomotor abilities; 3. neurological and other markers of abnormalities.
