ABSTRACT

Current Classroom Discourse Related to this Activity Much of the class time associated with the development of a practical hands-on project, such as the creation of a woodworking project, is in the form of lecture/demonstration by the teacher and then application by the student. e unit usually starts out with me informing the students about proper techniques for designing, planning, machine safety, proper manufacturing processes, and then the assigning of a project that applies all of the above. is discussion is very closed in the sense that I demonstrate/explain to the students the procedures for an activity, and then the students try to replicate the procedures on their own projects. Demonstrations on particular machines and processes are once again teacher centered, as is the giving of information to the students. ere is not much class discussion during the instruction phase of the unit.
