ABSTRACT

The demographics of the United States, much like the field of psychological assessment itself, are in a constant state of transition. Census data indicate that each year the number of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) individuals increases, and as such, many of our nation’s school children are members of various diverse groups. In the U.S., the main culturally and linguistically diverse groups are African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and Native Americans, all of which include individuals in need of psychological assessment and intervention (Dana, 1993). A major concern, however, is whether or not the instruments psychologists use are culturally sensitive and/or provide a fair and adequate assessment of personality functioning. Another concern is whether psychologists who utilize these instruments do so in a nonbiased manner.
