The Campaign to Close Institutions

The campaign to close institutions was perhaps the most important in the Canadian Association for Community Living's history. ¹ In waging this campaign, the mothers in this study confronted prevailing laws, social policy, professional practice, and cultural beliefs about disability, still none of them regarded their activist work as “political.”
