ABSTRACT

Connecting Self with Opportunity (the S and O of SOAR) now brings into sharper focus that external world where students can explore and exploit options within the curriculum and outside, and research occupations and organizations that may fit their strengths, interests and priorities. They have more opportunities than ever before, and more freedom and flexibility to choose. The flip side of this situation is complexity of choice: we risk discharging students into a sea of confusion unless we prepare them to choose sensibly. Constructing their SelfMAP in Part 2 gives them a springboard for action: students typically report that having this MAP makes them more confident in charting the ‘sea of confusion’ and navigating through it.
