References and Notes

The first thing that you should note is the title of this section of your paper. Is it called simply “References” or is it “Literature Cited” (or “Literature cited”)? Next, you need to check whether the references are in numerical order, with the order corresponding to the order in which they appear in the text, or in alphabetical order, or even, as is the case in some journals, in numerical and alphabetical order (in this case, the references are listed in alphabetical order and then numbered).
