ABSTRACT

If, as I have argued thus far in this book, neoliberal urban development strategies are destined to generate increased social, spatial and economic inequality, then what are the alternatives? This chapter lays out two broad scenarios: one, a short-to medium-term strategic reformist agenda which calls for Keynesian-style change; the other a more radical political and economic shift that fundamentally alters the social relations of production in Cape Town and South Africa.
