ABSTRACT
The Caspian Basin has been one of the world’s major oil producing regions for over a century. In 1900, Azerbaijan accounted for half of the world’s production of crude oil. However, in the last decade, the centre of gravity of the production in the Basin has moved from Azerbaijan to the Central Asian part of the Basin, primarily Kazakhstan.
