ABSTRACT

In the public telling of our tales we seek help in finding answers, or at least permission to share the burning questions.

— Robert Neimeyer

Human beings are storytellers. Long before we told our stories via paintings on the walls of caves, we sat together telling each other the stories of the day. The oral tradition continues to this day — the myths of each culture and the tales of our families are shared in groups and around the dinner table or on special holidays. In this first session of the grief support group we will use the story to lead us into our own grief and prepare the ground for the weeks to come. Introductions among the members, the telling of the story of their loss, and the beginning of the grief journal will be the focus of this first session.
