The importance of communication between generations comes through in this excerpt from the letters of support for the Hopi Radio Project:
Many generations have been disciplined that to speak Hopi was not acceptable and shamed to do so. Many still carry this shame around to the point where we do not teach our children the Hopi Language. I feel the radio station can help our people feel proud of our language and to motivate our Hopi people to listen and learn language. Language is the basis of our Hopi life.
